  • Notes
    • After his marriage, James moved to a farm about 20 miles northeast of Brandywine Springs, DE. He learned the brick mason trade. He taught his younger brother, William, the trade when William was only fifteen years old. Together they helped construct some of the buildings at Girard College. In the spring of 1834, James and William left their homes and walked over 500 miles to Ohio looking for new home sites.
James joined the Mormons in their journey to Salt Lake City, UT arriving there in 1850. He secured some land on Hobble Creek near a big spring west of town.
