    • BIRTH: Birthdate 24 Sep 1844 calculated from headstone which reads d. 8 Jun 1915, aged 70 years, 8 months, 14 days.

      MILITARY: Jacob served in the American Civil War. He mustered into service in 1862 at York in Company G, 166th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry under Captain D. L. Spangler. They served in Washington D.C., Newport News, Whitehouse, Yorktown, and then back to Washington and Harrisburg. He was mustered out of service in July 1863. He re-enlisted in October 1863 in the Carlisle Garrison and was appointed a sergeant of cavalry under Captain Myers. He was mustered out of service 16 Aug 1865 at Nashville, Tennessee.

      BURIAL: According to notes of Don Bentzel (great grandson), Jacob is purported to have been buried in full military regalia including a family heirloom, a German sword, lain across his chest.
