Elizabeth Ann Ferguson was born 8 Oct 1836 in London, England, to Thomas Ferguson & Sarah Ann Knott. When she was about 15, she and her girl friend, Annie Warren, would slip away from home to go to Mormon cottage meetings. She was the only member of her family interested in the gospel. Because the rest of her family was bitter toward her and the Mormon Church, she went to live with her aunt and uncle William. These three joined the Church and soon afterwards sailed for the United States.
On the journey from Missouri to Utah she met George Holyoak, Jr. They married after arriving in Salt Lake City 9 Oct 1866 in the Endowment House. They traveled to Parowan where George had a home. Elizabeth Ann was given half of the four room house built for Eliza. Eliza and Elizabeth Ann loved each other very much. Their home was one of the happiest homes in Parowan. Here Elizabeth raised her six children; Emma Elizabeth, George James, Sarah Jane, Thomas Knott, Joseph Ferguson and Mary Ester Mariah With the group of Saints was a Miss Elizabeth Ann Fergusen, traveling with her aunt and uncle on their way from England to Salt Lake City. She was already betrothed to a childhood sweetheart, but when she saw George Holyoak, Jr. for the first time, she knew he was the right one for her and she loved him almost immediately. George courted Elizabeth Ann and finally persuaded her to marry him. They were married in the Salt Lake Endowment House October 9, 1866, and left for Parowan.
When George and Elizabeth arrived in Parowan, Eliza Moore (George's first wife) had given the two nicest rooms to Elizabeth Ann and taken the two worst for herself.
The little adobe house was shared by both wives and was a very happy home. It was here that Eliza gave birth to three children; George Peter and Harriet Eliza, who died in infancy, and Eliza Ann, who later married Alfred A. Carpenter. (An adopted child, Thomas Elmer, choked to death on a peach stone.)
Elizabeth Ann Ferguson had six children; Emma Elizabeth, George James, Sarah Jane, Thomas Knott, Joseph Ferguson and Mary Ester Mariah. George took up some farm land west of town. When the Indians became less hostile, he built a home there. She was born on 8 Oct 1838, in Poplar, London, Middlesex, England and died 5 Apr 1922 in Parowan, Iron, Utah. She was the daughter of Thomas Fergusson and Sarah Ann Knott.
