Aaron Wills House, Rancocas [1940]

Photo of the Aaron Wills house at Rancocas, Burlington Co, New Jersey. The original structure was built by Dr. Daniel Wills between 1682 and 1700, then rebuilt in 1786. The home was willed to his son, John. John willed the home to his son, Daniel. Daniel willed the home to his sone, Daniel, who in turn willed it to his brother, Aaron. Aaron willed the home to his son, Samuel. Samuel willed the plantation to his son, Daniel. Daniel willed the "farm" to his son, William. After William's death his administrators sold the home by deed to Amos Gibbs. The home was then passed to Samuel L. Walker, to William H. Walker, to Catherine Coumbe, to W. J. Boyd, to Alfred Bauman, to Frank McIlvaine, who was the owner at the time of the 1940 survey. The home was rebuilt in 1786 when Aaron and Rachel Wills owned the plantation, the hearth bearing the initials "AWR." Photo by HABS (Library of Congress), research by Chad G. Nichols
